Photos of Plants
When Charles Darwin visited the Galapogos Islands, he found that the flora and fauna were slightly different on each island, as the isolated island population had evolved to cope with slightly different environment. These observations formed a central plank in his Theory of Evolution.
A similar thing happened in the Canary Islands. Although the islands are too young to have much in the way of native mammals, the plants have evolved in isolation. Thus there are two subspecies of Echium wildepretti: the one on La Palma has blue flowers and the one on Tenerife has pink flowers.
